Instagram Under Fire for ‘Kiss Challenge’ Video Involving Minor – POCSO, IT Act Invoked
Instagram has come under fire following a controversial video posted on its platform that featured a mother and her son participating in the so-called ‘Kiss Challenge’. This incident, that occurred in South Dinajpur, West Bengal, has led to a lawsuit filed under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Information Technology (IT) Act. The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken action against the social media giant after the video went viral, raising serious concerns about the safety and privacy of minors online.

The ‘Kiss Challenge’ has been gaining traction on Instagram. It typically involves users posting videos of themselves kissing others, which has sparked widespread participation on the platform. However, this particular video has attracted legal attention due to the involvement of a minor, leading authorities to scrutinize the content under child protection laws.

Meta is yet to respond to the allegations
The NCPCR, after reviewing the content, concluded that the video violates specific provisions of the POCSO Act, designed to protect minors from sexual offenses. Consequently, Instagram and its parent company Meta have been formally notified, although they have yet to respond to the allegations.
