He assured her that she could complete the KYC process without visiting a bank branch.
This seemingly helpful gesture proved to be a cleverly disguised trap. Thakral received a WhatsApp link, which directed her to a meticulously crafted, fraudulent Axis Bank KYC update page. Unsuspecting, she entered her personal and financial details on the fake website.
Swift and Devastating Financial Loss
Within a mere ten minutes, the consequences of her actions became painfully clear. Thakral received an alert that Rs 50,000 had been debited from her account. Panic-stricken, she attempted to log out of her UPI applications, but the damage was already done. Further debits followed, leaving her with a mere Rs 800. Reacting quickly, she transferred the remaining balance to a secure account.
