Indore: Police have arrested another accused in the high-profile ₹8 crore government funds embezzlement case in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore after investigators found that ₹13.72 lakh from government funds had allegedly been transferred into his bank account. Following the arrest, the accused was remanded to police custody, where investigators are questioning him to determine how the money was used and identify others allegedly involved in the financial fraud.
According to police, the case was registered in March 2023 after a complaint by the district administration regarding the alleged misappropriation of government funds. The preliminary investigation suggested that the accused had conspired to obtain details of bank accounts where government benefit transfers had failed. Investigators allege that the genuine beneficiaries’ bank account details were then replaced with the accounts of the accused, their relatives, friends and associates through forged sanction orders.
Police claim that payment vouchers were regenerated using fabricated documents, allowing government funds to be transferred into multiple private bank accounts. Through this alleged conspiracy, around ₹8 crore in public funds was siphoned off. Several accused have already been arrested in connection with the case, and the investigation remains ongoing.
In the latest development, police arrested Manoj alias Hallu, a resident of Pardeshipura. During an analysis of banking transactions, investigators allegedly found that co-accused Ranjeet had transferred ₹13.72 lakh from government funds into Manoj’s bank account. Police suspect the money may have been used to facilitate the alleged conspiracy or benefit other members of the network.
During police custody, investigators are questioning the accused to establish where the money was spent, who ultimately received the funds and whether any assets were purchased or additional transfers were made through other bank accounts. Officials are also examining banking records, financial documents and digital evidence to reconstruct the complete money trail.
The investigation has now expanded beyond the financial transactions themselves. Authorities are examining the alleged role of individuals involved in preparing forged sanction orders, manipulating the payment process and making fraudulent changes to official government records. Investigators have indicated that more suspects could be questioned or arrested if additional evidence emerges.
Experts note that in financial crimes involving government payment systems, digital records, banking transactions and documentary evidence play a crucial role. A detailed analysis of account linkages, payment timelines and beneficiary identities often helps investigators establish the movement of funds and identify those responsible. Early monitoring of suspicious financial transactions can significantly improve the detection of such frauds.
Police said the investigation is continuing, and further action will depend on the evidence gathered during the custodial interrogation of the accused. Officials stated that the objective is not only to identify the ultimate beneficiaries of the allegedly embezzled funds but also to uncover the complete network, its operational methods and the role of every individual involved. If fresh evidence surfaces during the investigation, additional charges may be invoked and further legal action taken against other suspects.
