To enhance passenger security, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has partnered with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to streamline the tracing, blocking, and recovery of lost or stolen mobile phones in trains and railway stations.
This strategic collaboration marks a major step in ensuring the digital safety of millions of railway commuters across India.
Under this initiative, the DoT’s Sanchar Saathi platform—an advanced mobile safety and anti-theft system—has been integrated with the Indian Railways’ Rail Madad app.
This integration will allow passengers to report lost or stolen phones through the Rail Madad app, with the complaint details being directly forwarded to the Sanchar Saathi platform. From there, stolen mobile handsets can be swiftly blocked, traced, and recovered, preventing misuse and potential cybercrimes.

The onboarding process has already commenced, with 17 RPF zones and over 70 railway divisions being connected to the Sanchar Saathi portal. To ensure seamless execution, over 250 RPF officers from 17 railway divisions recently underwent specialized training, where DoT officials briefed them on Sanchar Saathi’s citizen-centric features.
RPF Director General, Shri Manoj Yadav, echoed this sentiment, highlighting RPF’s ongoing commitment to passenger safety. He proudly shared that RPF has recovered and returned lost belongings worth Rs 84 crores in the past year under Operation Aamanat, and this latest collaboration will further strengthen efforts to ensure mobile security for railway travelers.

Since its inception, the Sanchar Saathi platform’s CEIR module has blocked around 30 lakh lost/stolen mobile devices, traced 18 lakh handsets, and successfully recovered 3.87 lakh phones with the assistance of state police forces. Police departments in Telangana, Maharashtra, and Karnataka have demonstrated remarkable efficiency in using this system to recover stolen phones and curb mobile-related crimes.
Passengers can now easily report lost or stolen phones through the Rail Madad App, which will automatically transfer their complaint to the Sanchar Saathi system. Moreover, users can directly report telecom-related cyber frauds and misuse of mobile resources via the Sanchar Saathi App, available on Android and iOS.
