With the rapid expansion of digital services in India, the threat of cybercrime continues to rise. According to the latest report from cybersecurity company Kaspersky, its security systems blocked nearly 47 million online cyber threats in India during 2025.

The report states that internet users in the country faced an average of about 130,000 web-based cyber threats every day. These attacks mainly included phishing, malware, suspicious websites, and online fraud. The growing use of digital payments, online banking, and internet-based services has further encouraged cybercriminal activities.

Millions of Cyber Attacks Blocked in 2025

According to Kaspersky’s report, between January and December 2025, its security products detected and blocked more than 47.5 million internet-based threats targeting computer and network systems in India.

During this period, nearly 24.7 percent of internet users in the country were exposed to some form of online threat. Security network data shows that India ranked 62nd globally in terms of users affected by web-based cyber threats.

QR Codes Emerging as a New Fraud Tool

According to Jaideep Singh, Head of Kaspersky India, cybercriminals are constantly adopting new techniques to cheat people. Recently, the use of QR codes to hide phishing links has increased.

Scanning such QR codes through mobile phones may redirect users to fake websites where there is a risk of banking or personal data theft.

Fileless Malware — A Growing Cyber Threat

The report also highlighted that browser-based cyberattacks remain one of the most common methods used by hackers. Attackers exploit vulnerabilities in browsers and their plugins to gain unauthorized system access.

Kaspersky said that fileless malware emerged as a serious threat in 2025. This type of malware does not appear as a file on the hard disk but operates by hiding inside system memory, making it difficult for traditional antivirus software to detect.

Cyber Risks Rising With Digital Expansion

Renowned cybercrime expert, former IPS officer, and Professor Triveni Singh said that cyber risks are increasing with the expansion of digital services.

He warned, “Cybercriminals are using highly sophisticated methods to trap people. Users should avoid sharing information on unknown links, suspicious QR codes, or fake websites, as even a small mistake can lead to huge financial losses.”

Vigilance Remains the Best Protection

Cybersecurity experts advise internet users to follow safe online practices such as using strong passwords, enabling two-factor authentication, visiting secure websites, and maintaining cautious online behavior.

Experts believe that cyber threats may continue to grow in the future. Therefore, governments, institutions, and citizens must stay more aware and vigilant about cybersecurity.
