Home Minister Amit Shah Declares War on Cybercrime – Discover the New Weapons in India’s Digital Arsenal!
Amit Shah to launch Cyber Commandos, Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre, and new initiatives to bolster India’s cybersecurity on the first Foundation Day of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C).
NEW DELHI: To strengthen India’s fight against cybercrime, Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will mark the first Foundation Day celebration of the Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) on 10th September 2024. The event will take place in New Delhi and is set to introduce a range of cutting-edge initiatives aimed at making India’s digital space more secure.
The day will not only commemorate the creation of I4C but will also showcase the government’s resolve to tackle the growing threats in cyberspace. At the heart of this effort is a collaborative approach that unites law enforcement, the financial sector, and key industries in the fight against online crimes.
Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre: A Collective Effort to Combat Online Financial Crimes
One of the key announcements at the event will be the inauguration of the Cyber Fraud Mitigation Centre (CFMC), which will serve as a centralized hub for responding to and mitigating online financial frauds. Located within the I4C headquarters in New Delhi, this center will bring together major players in the financial and technology sectors. Representatives from major banks, payment aggregators, telecom service providers, IT companies, and state/UT law enforcement agencies will collaborate under one roof to provide real-time responses to online financial fraud.
With the rise of digital transactions and e-commerce, financial fraud has become a growing threat to individuals and businesses alike. The CFMC aims to tackle this by fostering seamless coordination among key stakeholders, ensuring that online financial crimes are addressed swiftly and effectively. As Amit Shah noted, “This initiative reflects the spirit of cooperative federalism, where we all come together for the common goal of securing India’s digital future.”

Samanvaya Platform: Streamlining Cybercrime Investigations
Another major initiative to be launched is the Samanvaya Platform, a web-based module designed to act as a one-stop portal for law enforcement agencies. The Samanvaya Platform will be a comprehensive data repository for all cybercrime-related information across the country. By providing a platform for data sharing, crime mapping, and analytics, it aims to revolutionize the way cybercrimes are investigated.
For law enforcement agencies, time is often of the essence, and the Samanvaya Platform will ensure that police forces from different states and agencies have instant access to critical information. This will not only improve response times but also allow for better coordination between state and central authorities, reducing jurisdictional bottlenecks in solving cybercrimes.
Amit Shah emphasized that the platform will make a significant difference in how crimes in the digital space are handled: “By streamlining investigations and making crucial data readily accessible, we are empowering our law enforcement agencies to act swiftly and with greater precision.”
Cyber Commandos: India’s New Line of Defence in Cyberspace
The cyber landscape is constantly evolving, and with new technologies come new threats. To address this challenge, Amit Shah will launch the Cyber Commandos Program, creating a new force dedicated to countering cyber threats. These Cyber Commandos will be specially trained to deal with the complexities of modern cyberattacks and to secure India’s digital infrastructure.
This elite task force will operate within state and central law enforcement agencies, ensuring that every corner of the country is protected. Trained in cutting-edge techniques and technology, these commandos will be India’s frontline warriors in the fight against cybercrime. They will also work closely with states and Union Territories to provide crucial support in responding to cyber threats.
In a country where digitalization is advancing at an unprecedented pace, the need for such a specialized force has never been more urgent. Whether it’s securing government networks, protecting critical infrastructure, or fighting against online fraud, these commandos will play a pivotal role in ensuring India’s cyber resilience.
Suspect Registry: Strengthening Fraud Risk Management
As part of a broader effort to combat cybercrime, Amit Shah will also inaugurate a Suspect Registry, which will be a comprehensive database designed to strengthen fraud risk management across India’s financial ecosystem. Built in collaboration with banks and financial intermediaries, this registry will draw on data from the National Cybercrime Reporting Portal (NCRP).
The registry will include identifiers of individuals and entities suspected of cyber fraud, enabling financial institutions to better assess the risk of fraudulent activities. It represents a proactive step in preventing fraud by identifying potential offenders before they can strike again. The creation of this registry is a direct response to the growing sophistication of financial crimes and is expected to significantly reduce instances of cyber fraud across the country.

Achieving Prime Minister Modi’s Vision of a ‘Cyber Secure Bharat’
These new initiatives align with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of a ‘Cyber Secure Bharat’. As digital technology becomes increasingly integrated into everyday life, the government is committed to creating a secure online environment for all citizens. Since its establishment on October 5, 2018, I4C has been at the forefront of the nation’s fight against cybercrime. The center was officially inaugurated on January 10, 2020, and has since been instrumental in coordinating efforts at the national level to tackle cyber threats.
Now, with its designation as an attached office under the Ministry of Home Affairs, I4C is taking on an even larger role in protecting India’s cyberspace. The initiatives being launched on its first Foundation Day mark a new chapter in the fight against cybercrime, signaling the government’s dedication to safeguarding the nation’s digital future.
Event Attendees and Live Telecast
The event will be attended by Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Union Home Secretary, Director of Intelligence Bureau, Chief Secretaries, and DGPs from various states and UTs. High-ranking officials from banks, financial intermediaries, fintech companies, media, and other organizations will also be present. Cyber Commandos, NCC and NSS cadets, representing the future guardians of India’s digital space, will join the gathering.
For those unable to attend in person, the event will be live-streamed on I4C’s official YouTube channel ‘Cyberdost’, beginning at 11:30 AM on 10th September 2024.
A Critical Step Toward a Cyber-Secure Future
The launch of these initiatives underscores the government’s commitment to building a robust cybersecurity infrastructure capable of defending against the growing threat of cybercrime. Amit Shah’s leadership in launching these programs sets the stage for a more secure digital future for India, where cooperation across sectors and the use of cutting-edge technology can ensure the safety and security of all citizens.
With these efforts, India is not only taking significant steps to safeguard its digital infrastructure but is also setting an example for other nations facing similar challenges. As the country continues its journey toward becoming a global leader in digital innovation, these cybersecurity measures will play a crucial role in ensuring that progress is safe, secure, and sustainable.
