Online Love Gone Wrong: Hyderabad Doctor Trapped in Rs 10 Lakh Matrimonial Scam
A 31-year-old woman doctor from Hyderabad was scammed, blackmailed, and extorted by a cyber fraudster she met on a matrimonial site. The fraudster lured her with false promises of marriage, tricked her into transferring Rs 10 lakh, and later threatened to leak her morphed photos online.

A 31-year-old woman doctor from Hyderabad became the latest victim of cyber fraud after being deceived by a scammer she met on a popular matrimonial site. The fraudster, who introduced himself as Harsha, expressed interest in marrying her and gradually built a connection through phone conversations.
According to the police, Harsha won the doctor’s trust by fabricating a sob story about his family’s financial struggles. Believing his tale, she sent him lakhs of rupees to help him out. Over time, she transferred a total of Rs 10 lakh to the bank account provided by him.
However, things took a dark turn when she inquired about their wedding plans. Harsha became aggressive, started verbally abusing her, and even threatened to ruin her reputation. He warned her that he would release morphed photos of her on social media unless she paid him an additional Rs 10 lakh.
Feeling helpless and fearing further harassment, the doctor finally decided to approach the Hyderabad Cybercrime Police. Authorities registered a case and launched an investigation into the scam.
The police have urged the public to be cautious while interacting with strangers on online platforms, especially matrimonial sites, where fraudsters often exploit emotions for financial gain.
