Cult classic ‘Hera Pheri 3’ has landed in controversy after veteran actor Paresh Rawal unexpectedly exited the project. The shock departure has triggered a ₹25 crore legal notice from lead actor and co-producer Akshay Kumar, while director Priyadarshan expresses disappointment and confusion over not being informed. The rift has cast uncertainty over the future of the much-anticipated comedy franchise.
Akshay Sends Legal Notice, Priyadarshan Voices Support
In a dramatic turn for one of Bollywood’s most iconic comedy franchises, Paresh Rawal has walked out of ‘Hera Pheri 3’, leading to a legal face-off with co-star and producer Akshay Kumar, who has reportedly served him a ₹25 crore compensation notice for damages incurred.
Director Priyadarshan, the man behind the original cult hit, has backed Akshay’s move and expressed dismay over Paresh’s decision. “He didn’t inform me or explain why he was leaving,” Priyadarshan told the press. “This was unexpected and hurtful. We’ve done multiple films together. I was ready to direct him again.”
Akshay Kumar had earlier bought the rights to the franchise from producer Firoz Nadiadwala and had invested personal funds to bring the third installment to life. Sources suggest that Paresh’s sudden departure has not only delayed production but also jeopardized key marketing and distribution deals.
No Clarity, No Conflict—Just Silence
Contrary to social media speculation about “creative differences” between Rawal and Priyadarshan, the veteran actor has denied any professional dispute. “I have great respect and love for Priyadarshan,” he said. “We’ve made wonderful films together and will continue to do so.”
Yet the lack of communication remains troubling. Priyadarshan insists he was never informed of any dissatisfaction by Paresh. “Akshay had clearly asked me to speak with both Paresh and Suniel [Shetty] before the film started. I did. Both agreed to come onboard. I don’t know what happened after that,” he added.
When approached by Hindustan Times for a comment on the legal notice, Paresh Rawal responded curtly, “I have no knowledge about this.” The ambiguity only deepens the mystery—and tension—behind the scenes.
The Future of Hera Pheri 3 Now in Doubt
With shooting schedules stalled and the project’s trio—Akshay Kumar, Suniel Shetty, and Paresh Rawal—no longer intact, the film’s future is uncertain. Fans have long awaited a proper sequel to the 2006 hit Phir Hera Pheri, and Hera Pheri 3 was seen as a comeback moment.
However, the financial implications of Paresh’s exit are serious. Insiders reveal that distributors had already shown early interest, assuming the original trio would reunite. Now, with that cast in doubt, producers may need to recast or renegotiate deals, risking further delays and losses.
