In a major anti-corruption operation inside the tehsil premises, the Anti-Corruption Organisation arrested a revenue official (kanungo) and his private aide while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹14,000. A case has been registered against both under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The trap was executed by the Moradabad unit of the Anti-Corruption team under the supervision of Inspector Naval Marwah. Acting on a prior complaint, the team planned a sting at the kanungo’s office in Gunnor tehsil. The accused were caught on the spot immediately after the complainant handed over the marked currency.
The complaint was filed by Balveer, a resident of Dhandhumra village. He alleged that a map correction case related to his land was pending in the ADM court in Sambhal. According to him, the area’s property kanungo, Tasleem Ahmad, along with his private clerk Mahendra Pal, had demanded ₹14,000 to submit a favourable report. Mahendra Pal was reportedly presenting himself as an advocate while pursuing the matter.
After receiving the complaint, the Anti-Corruption team conducted a discreet verification and prepared the trap. On Thursday, the complainant was sent to the office with the agreed amount. As soon as the money was handed over, officials who were already positioned nearby moved in and arrested both men. The bribe money was recovered from their possession.

Station House Officer Rajeev Malik of Gunnor police station said an FIR has been registered on the complaint of the Anti-Corruption team and further legal proceedings are underway. The accused are being interrogated to ascertain whether they were involved in similar demands in other cases.
The operation created a stir in the tehsil complex, with several employees stepping out of their offices following the arrests. Officials indicated that pending revenue and land-related files may be reviewed to detect any further irregularities.
The Anti-Corruption Organisation has appealed to citizens to report any demand for bribes by government officials, assuring that the identity of complainants will be kept confidential and strict action will be taken against offenders.
Authorities said the action sends a strong message against corruption at the tehsil level and that monitoring and trap operations will continue to ensure transparency in revenue and land administration.
The accused will be produced before the court as the investigation progresses.
