New Delhi | The growing military tension between Iran, Israel, and the United States in the Middle East is now reflecting on global aviation operations. Considering the security risk in the Gulf region, Indian airlines have temporarily suspended their flight services. Air India Express and IndiGo have halted all operations on routes connected to Gulf countries, affecting travel plans of a large number of passengers.
In recent days, the Middle East has witnessed a series of attacks and retaliatory actions. Iran reportedly targeted several U.S. military bases located in Kuwait, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Qatar, Iraq, Saudi Arabia, and Jordan with missile strikes. Following the escalation of regional tensions, aviation safety protocols have been tightened. Several international airlines have also adjusted their operations as a precautionary measure.

An Air India Express spokesperson said passenger and crew safety remains the company’s top priority. The airline is closely monitoring the situation and will review flight operations whenever necessary. The company is directly informing affected passengers through their registered contact details and providing all possible assistance. Travelers are advised to check the latest flight updates only through the airline’s official website.
Due to the tension, one flight had to return midway after airspace restrictions were imposed. An Air India Express flight traveling from Mangalore to Dubai was redirected back after the airspace closure. Around 145 passengers were on board and were safely returned to the respective airport. The airline has advised passengers to keep their mobile numbers and other contact details updated to receive timely alerts.
IndiGo Airlines also announced the cancellation of all its flights connected to the Middle East region until midnight. The company stated that airspace restrictions around Iran and nearby areas are changing rapidly, and the decision was taken to prioritize safety. Information related to rescheduling and ticket cancellation is being shared through the website’s manage booking section and customer service channels.
SpiceJet also indicated that some of its flights could be affected due to restrictions in the Dubai airspace. The airline urged passengers to check travel updates before departure and stay prepared for possible changes. Several international carriers, including British Airways, have also cancelled some flights as a precaution. Some Russian airlines have temporarily modified their services to the Gulf region.
Experts believe that if the Middle East conflict continues for a longer period, it may impact the global aviation industry as well as the energy market. Gulf countries are a major hub of global oil supply, and rising tensions could lead to fluctuations in crude oil prices. Countries like India may also face economic implications as a large number of Indian workers reside in the Gulf region.
Government authorities and concerned agencies are closely monitoring the safety of Indian citizens living in the Middle East. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel and rely only on official information for decision-making. The situation in the Gulf region remains tense, and further decisions regarding flight operations will be taken after security review.
