Ahmedabad: Investigators have uncovered a massive insurance fraud case in Gujarat involving a man allegedly connected to 24 separate accidents across the districts of Panchmahal, Dahod, and Mahisagar.

The Scheme Unveiled
The accused, Aslam Mohammad Chunchala, has been identified as the driver in all 24 cases. Investigators are yet to confirm if Chunchala was a willing participant or falsely implicated. However, the repeated use of his name in insurance claims raises concerns of a well-orchestrated conspiracy aimed at defrauding insurance companies.

The fraud came to light during a 2016 investigation into a suspicious claim filed in 2015. The claim sought Rs 3 lakh as compensation for injuries allegedly sustained in an accident involving a Toofan vehicle. Chunchala was listed as the driver, and Sikandar Sulemanbhai Samad as the vehicle’s owner. The insurer, Bajaj Allianz General Insurance, was directed to settle the claim.

A Pattern of Deception
Further scrutiny by a private firm revealed Chunchala’s involvement in 23 additional accidents across the three districts. The findings unveiled a systematic pattern of fraudulent claims tied to fabricated accidents.

Legal Actions and Implications
Kalpesh Kantilal Prajapati, an area manager at Bajaj Allianz, filed a complaint at the Godhra Taluka Police Station. Chunchala is accused of offering his role in fake accident cases for a fee to facilitate fraudulent claims.

This expose has raised significant questions about the extent of the fraud and its impact on the insurance sector. Gujarat, already grappling with a high insurance claim ratio of over 130%, nearly double the national average, is now under scrutiny for recurring fraudulent activities.

Similar Incidents
The case echoes past scams, such as that of Vadodara resident Hanif Mansuri, who admitted to involvement in 22 fraudulent accident claims spanning over a decade.
