Google is quietly testing a new feature called “Projects” for its Gemini AI platform, giving users a way to manage research tasks, organize files, and generate content within dedicated workspaces. The feature, spotted in testing, mirrors OpenAI’s recently launched Project feature for ChatGPT and signals Google’s ongoing effort to strengthen Gemini’s position in the competitive AI market.
Gemini’s New Project’s Features
The Projects tool will allow users to upload files, documents, or code into a project workspace. Once added, Gemini can reference those files directly in conversations, making it possible to generate new documents, research summaries, or even code that draws on user-provided resources.

According to Google’s description, the feature is designed for users who want to group related tasks and manage them under a single umbrella. This positions Gemini as more than just a conversational AI, evolving it into a collaborative research and productivity platform.
While Google has not confirmed an official release date, industry observers believe that the rollout could begin with enterprise customers before reaching general users. This would align with Google’s broader strategy of targeting businesses with advanced AI productivity tools.
Genie 3: Real-Time Interactive AI Worlds
Alongside Gemini’s Projects, Google DeepMind has also unveiled Genie 3, a groundbreaking model capable of generating playable, interactive 3D environments from simple text prompts.
With Genie 3, users can create simulations that allow them to move through a world rendered in 720p resolution at 24 frames per second, complete with physically consistent scenes that persist for several minutes. Early testers have reported being able to “look down and see themselves walking” within these AI-generated worlds, adding a striking layer of immersion to generative AI.
Analysts say the combination of Gemini’s Projects and DeepMind’s Genie 3 underscores Google’s strategy to position itself at the cutting edge of generative AI, challenging OpenAI’s dominance and reshaping how AI can be applied to both productivity and entertainment.
