Ghaziabad/Agra | Special Correspondent- In a shocking case of insurance fraud, a man and his father allegedly faked the son’s death to claim ₹72 lakh from the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC). The duo reportedly murdered a mentally unstable man in Agra, passed off his body as that of the son, and collected the insurance payout. The elaborate deception unraveled 17 years later when the “dead” son was found alive in Ahmedabad.

Following the revelation, the LIC’s Legal Manager filed a complaint at the Sihani Gate Police Station in Ghaziabad, leading to the registration of a case against five accused — Vijaypal Singh, his sons Anil Singh alias Guddu and Abhay Singh, along with Mahipal Singh and Ramveer Singh.

The Plot: A Death Scripted in 2006

According to the FIR, Anil Singh, a resident of Bhattaparasoul in Gautam Buddh Nagar, had purchased four insurance policies between 2003 and 2006. In July 2006, his father, Vijaypal Singh, informed LIC that Anil had died in a car accident in Agra.
After a routine verification, LIC released an insurance claim of around ₹72 lakh to the father.

However, in 2023, Ahmedabad Police arrested Anil Singh in connection with a separate fraud case — exposing the fact that he was alive and had staged his death years earlier. The man who died in the 2006 “accident” was, in fact, an unidentified destitute man.

The Crime: Murder of a Beggar to Stage a Death

Investigations revealed a gruesome conspiracy.
Anil Singh, with help from his father and associates, lured a beggar by offering him food. The victim was drugged, dressed in Anil’s clothes, and placed in a car. The accused then poured petrol on the vehicle, set it ablaze near the PWD office in Agra, and spread the word that Anil had died in a road accident.

To strengthen the deception, Anil’s father identified the charred body as that of his son, and the family performed the last rites. Based on the death certificate and family testimony, LIC released the insurance amount.

The Twist: “Dead” Son Living in Gujarat

After the staged murder, Anil changed his identity to Rajkumar Chaudhary and settled in the Nikol area of Ahmedabad. He obtained an Aadhaar card and driving licence under the new name and began earning his living by driving an auto-rickshaw.

A tip-off led Ahmedabad Police to investigate, eventually confirming that “Rajkumar” was actually Anil Singh — the man believed to be dead since 2006. During interrogation, Anil confessed that he had plotted the entire scheme with his father to obtain the insurance payout.

Verification and Proof

To confirm his true identity, police brought Anil to his native village in Bhattaparasoul, where records at Kisan Inter College showed his original name — Anil Malik. The school documents matched his credentials, confirming the identity fraud. Ahmedabad Police subsequently took him into custody for further investigation.

Who Was the Real Victim? Still a Mystery

The true identity of the murdered man remains unknown. Police believe he was a homeless beggar whom Anil and his associates duped and killed to stage the accident. The case, originally registered at the Rakabganj police station in Agra as an accident, has now been reopened as a murder investigation.

Police Statement

ACP Nandgram confirmed, “The case has been registered on the court’s direction. Evidence is being gathered against all accused, and strict legal action will follow based on the findings.
