GAUTAM BUDH NAGAR:  As cyber fraud cases rise sharply across India’s urban corridors, the police administration in Gautam Buddh Nagar has begun constructing a dedicated cyber police station building—an effort officials describe as both an infrastructure upgrade and a response to the changing nature of crime in the digital age.

A District Confronts the Scale of Cybercrime

In Gautam Buddh Nagar, part of the rapidly urbanizing National Capital Region, cybercrime has become a persistent and growing concern. Police officials point to a steady increase in complaints related to online cheating, cyber fraud, data theft, and digital financial crimes offences that often transcend physical jurisdictions and traditional investigative methods.

Against this backdrop, the district police administration has initiated the construction of a new cyber police station building in Sector-20, Pocket-C, within the Yamuna Authority area under the Khurja police zone. The move, officials say, reflects an acknowledgment that existing facilities and workflows are no longer sufficient to handle the volume and complexity of digital offences.

The project has been launched under the direction of the Police Commissioner, with the stated aim of strengthening the district’s capacity to respond to cybercrime in a more systematic and technologically equipped manner.

Inside the New Cyber Police Station

According to official plans, the cyber police station will be built over an area of approximately 3,500 square meters, at an estimated cost of ₹3.30 crore. The construction work is being carried out by the Public Works Department (PWD), which has been tasked with developing the building in line with modern technical standards.

Police officials say the facility is being designed to support not only routine complaint registration and investigation, but also specialized cybercrime operations. The emphasis, they note, is on creating a workspace that aligns with the investigative demands of digital evidence, online financial trails, and technology-enabled fraud networks.

Once operational, the building is expected to centralize cybercrime investigations that are currently handled across multiple locations, often with limited technical infrastructure.

Forensics, Training, and the Digital Evidence Chain

A central feature of the new cyber police station will be the establishment of a high-tech cyber forensic unit and an advanced laboratory. These facilities are intended to enable the scientific collection, preservation, and analysis of digital evidence—an area that police officials describe as critical for successful prosecution in cybercrime cases.

Digital forensics, investigators note, often determines whether cases involving online fraud, identity theft, or financial manipulation can withstand judicial scrutiny. The proposed lab is expected to support faster technical examinations and reduce dependence on external forensic facilities.

In parallel, the district police have focused on capacity building. Under the commissioner’s direction, police officers and staff across Gautam Buddh Nagar have already undergone cyber security training through the CyTrain portal. The training programs have included inputs from experts associated with multinational companies, cyber institutions, banking, education, and law-enforcement agencies, with sessions covering topics such as cyber vulnerability and emerging digital threats.

Policing in a Digitally Exposed City

Police officials frame the new cyber police station as part of a broader effort to adapt policing practices to a city increasingly shaped by digital transactions, online services, and technology-driven lifestyles. As more financial and personal activity moves online, investigators say, the nature of victimhood has also changed—often involving rapid financial losses and complex digital trails.

Authorities believe the new facility will help speed up the resolution of complaints, improve technical investigations, and enable stricter action against cyber offenders. The expectation, they say, is that a dedicated, well-equipped cyber police station will also enhance public confidence by offering a more accessible and specialized response to cybercrime.
