In Lucknow, What began as a hopeful journey towards a better future ended in despair for two young men from Uttar Pradesh. Mithun Yadav from Deoria and Gopal Satya Narayan from Ghazipur fell victim to a travel agency scam in Lucknow that promised them lucrative jobs in Kyrgyzstan but instead left them cheated of ₹1.75 lakh.

The Trap of False Promises
Coming from a labourer’s family, Mithun borrowed money from relatives to pay the agent, identified as Iqbal Khan, a total of ₹1.10 lakh through multiple channels—bank transfer, PhonePe, and cash. Similarly, Gopal, who bears the responsibility of supporting six family members, managed to raise ₹65,000. Both were assured that overseas employment would transform their families’ lives.
A Nightmare at the Airport
The agent provided them with air tickets and visas, fuelling their belief that the opportunity was genuine. But their dreams crumbled at Delhi airport, where immigration authorities found that all the documents were fake. Instead of boarding a flight to Kyrgyzstan, the two men returned home with nothing but forged papers and shattered hopes.
Expert Speaks on the Larger Problem
Cybercrime expert Professor Triveni Singh described the case as part of a wider social issue. “Young men from rural and labour-class families are eager to find jobs abroad. Fraudsters exploit this aspiration. Unless people rely only on official recruitment channels, such scams will keep recurring,” he cautioned.
Police Begin Probe
Lucknow police have initiated an investigation into the matter, assuring the victims’ families that strict action will be taken against those responsible. For Mithun and Gopal, however, the incident represents more than financial loss—it is the collapse of a dream they believed could lift their families out of poverty.
