FCRF Salutes Cyber Cop Who Tracked 61 Criminals in 78-Day Multi-State Chase
Future Crime Research Foundation salutes the cyber cop who tracked down 61 cyber criminals across multiple states in a relentless 78-day pursuit.
The Special Task Force (STF) Cyber Crime Police Station in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, disclosed a major investigative effort targeting cybercriminals across India. Head Constable Swadesh Kumar Rai from the Cyber Crime Police Station led an extensive verification campaign to gather intelligence on cybercrime suspects nationwide. Over a dedicated 78-day period, Rai independently visited over 16 states, covering 72 cities, to verify 61 suspected cybercriminals and collect valuable confidential information regarding cyber operations.
MODUS OPERANDI
The campaign involved strategic fieldwork by Head Constable Rai, who carried out the investigation in compliance with court orders and directives from senior officials. Rai traveled to locations with high cybercrime activity, including remote areas near sensitive borders, using various modes of transportation—bus, train, motorbike, steamer, and sometimes on foot. His journey spanned cities in West Bengal close to the Bangladesh border, Gujarat up to Dwarka, and Rajasthan near the Pakistan border, among other areas. The intelligence gathered highlighted operational techniques and methods used by cybercrime syndicates and their distinct tactics.
ARREST & SEIZURE
During the investigation, notices under Section 41A of the CRPC and the newly enacted Section 35(3) Bhartiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita were issued to 15 cybercrime suspects. Rai obtained insights through direct communication with suspects, local law enforcement, and by leveraging his own acumen in the field. The intelligence was later shared with officers at the Cyber Crime Police Station in Dehradun, which is expected to lead to further crackdowns on large-scale cyber syndicates operating across the country.
