Fake SBI Telecaller Gang That Made 33,000 Fake Calls Last Year Busted; 209 Cases Registered, 14 Arrested

NEW DELHI: A group of scamsters posing as ‘SBI telecallers’ and perpetrating cyber scams across the country was nabbed by Cyberabad police in a series of arrests. Following a three-month investigation, Cyberabad police began a series of arrests in November. According to the police, 14 people have been arrested in connection with the cyber fraud case.

The police had received multiple complaints from SBI customers who had been duped by the group into believing they would get credit points, renew their credit cards, and so on. The swindlers were apprehended in Delhi by the Cyberabad Police from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Uttam Nagar.

Nikhil Madaan, a graduate from Uttam Nagar, has been named as the main accused in this case.

According to Cyberabad commissioner of police M Stephen Ravindra, it is one of the largest cyber scams in our country, with the gang allegedly making 33,000 calls in the last year. People have been duped out of hundreds of crores of rupees, and approximately 5,000 charges will be filed against the gang across the country, according to the commissioner.

After gaining access to a person’s credit card information using third-party apps, the gang contacts the customer and offers them various services. One of the accused provided a call spoofing application to enhance customer faith that the call was coming from an SBI toll-free number.

One of the accused opened 49 bank accounts into which money would be deposited from consumers who had been cheated.
