Fake Medicines Worth Rs 1.85 Crore Endangering Patient Health Seized in Maharashtra
Thane : Fake medicines worth Rs 1.85 crore were seized in Maharashtra’s Thane district, following raids conducted by the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) and local police. Officials shared the details on Monday, revealing that the action took place at two locations over the past few months.
According to an FDA official, the raids were carried out at a warehouse in Bhiwandi and another establishment in the Mira Road area. The operation led to the recovery of large quantities of fake medicines that were being distributed across multiple states.
The investigation uncovered that the accused were not only manufacturing counterfeit medicines but also falsely posing as legitimate manufacturers. These fake drugs posed significant risks to patients’ health, with the perpetrators exploiting the distribution channels to deceive consumers.

The police have registered a case against two individuals involved in the operation. Authorities are now focused on identifying the locations where these medicines were being produced and the networks used for distribution. Officials emphasized that the investigation is ongoing to trace the complete supply chain and prevent further circulation of these counterfeit drugs.
An FDA official highlighted the seriousness of the case, stating that such activities amount to playing with patients’ health and undermining trust in the healthcare system. The fake medicines, distributed across various states, endangered public safety and violated pharmaceutical regulations.
The raids mark a critical step in combating the illegal trade of counterfeit medicines. Authorities are working to ensure strict action is taken against those involved, while also tracing the broader network responsible for this illicit activity. Further updates are expected as the investigation progresses.
