Gorakhpur — Uttar Pradesh Police has initiated action under the Gangster Act against an organized gang that was preparing and selling fake degrees in the names of genuine doctors. Through these degrees, clinics and diagnostic centers were being operated in cities like Varanasi, Ghazipur, and Prayagraj.

According to investigative agencies, the kingpin of this network is Alaudin, a resident of Kushinagar. Police stated that Alaudin and his associates not only endangered patients’ lives but also severely damaged the reputation of real doctors.

The case began in the Gulriha police station area of Gorakhpur when Dr. Rahul Nayak filed a complaint in May 2024. The allegation was that a fake degree in his name was being used to run an illegal diagnostic centre in Ghazipur. Following this, Ghazipur resident Brijesh Lal was arrested. During interrogation, he confessed that the fake degrees were purchased from Omprakash Gautam of Varanasi.

Police investigations revealed that Omprakash had sold the degree for ₹50,000. Later, the name of Deepak Vishwakarma, a resident of Varanasi, also came up, who had arranged fake diplomas from Patna.

During the investigation, it was also discovered that this network was connected to a hospital employee named Sujit in Varanasi, who provided forged documents.

Police officials said that now not only the gang but also its financial network is being probed. Officials argued that such networks directly put patients at risk and also weaken trust in the healthcare system.
