Fake MBBS Doctor Arrested in UP, Found Working at Government Hospital

Gorakhpur police have launched an extensive verification process involving nine universities across the country to investigate a fake medical degree racket. On Sunday, police teams were dispatched to these universities to verify the authenticity of 21 counterfeit degrees recovered from a doctor and his associate at Khoraabar Primary Health Center.
Fake Degrees from Prestigious Universities
During the raid, police discovered forged degrees issued in the names of various institutions from Lucknow, Meerut, Moradabad, Karnataka, Punjab, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Shikohabad. Among them, Dr. Rajesh Kumar, who was arrested in Khoraabar, had allegedly obtained a fake MBBS degree from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka. Three such degrees were found in his possession. Other fake degrees recovered include:
- Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbi Medical Board, Lucknow – 2 degrees
- OPJS University, Churu (Rajasthan) – 2 degrees
- Uttar Pradesh Pharmacy Council – 1 degree
- IK Gujral Punjab Technical University – 2 degrees
- JS University, Shikohabad – 4 degrees
- Ayush & Health Sciences University, Chhattisgarh – 1 degree
- IFTM University, Moradabad – 3 degrees
- National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG – 1 fake certificate
His associate, Sushil Chaudhary, was also found in possession of two fake degrees – one from Ayurvedic and Unani Tibbi Medical Board, Uttar Pradesh and another from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut.

How Was the Racket Exposed?
On February 24, police arrested Dr. Rajesh Kumar, a contract-based doctor posted at the Khoraabar Primary Health Center (PHC), along with his associate Sushil Kumar Chaudhary. While Rajesh Kumar resides in Awas Vikas Colony, AIIMS area, Gorakhpur, his accomplice is from Pathan Tola, Khalilabad Kotwali, Sant Kabir Nagar.
Who is the Mastermind?
The investigation revealed that the duo used to lure people and extort money in exchange for fake medical degrees. These degrees were printed by a kingpin based in Western Uttar Pradesh. Police have already identified the mastermind and formed a special team to track him down. Once apprehended, the entire network of this fake degree syndicate will be exposed.
Police Action and Further Investigation
Speaking on the case, SP City Abhinav Tyagi stated that police teams have been dispatched to nine universities across the country to gather evidence. Based on the investigation, more individuals linked to this racket will be named in the case. Additionally, efforts are being made to locate and arrest the fugitive mastermind behind this multi-state fraud.
