Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh Transport Department has launched a new WhatsApp Chatbot service to notify vehicle owners of e-challans directly on their mobile phones. The system, operational from August 10, will automatically send challan details via the department’s official chatbot, allowing citizens to view, verify, and pay their dues online without visiting physical offices.

Under this initiative, challan information will be sent to registered mobile numbers of vehicle owners through an official message, eliminating delays and ensuring faster compliance. According to officials, the system is aimed at reducing pendency in fine collection and improving transparency in enforcement.

How the New WhatsApp E-Challan Service Works

  • The Transport Department’s verified WhatsApp chatbot will send challan details along with an official payment link.
  • Vehicle owners can make payments without logging into the Parivahan portal, using UPI, debit/credit cards, or net banking.
  • The official helpline number 8005441222 will be used for WhatsApp communication.
  • The service can also be accessed through the Parivahan portal (parivahan.gov.in), where users can view and download challans.

This system is integrated with the 1404274 message gateway to ensure secure and authenticated notifications.

Drivers Must Keep These Points in Mind

  • Only messages from the verified WhatsApp number should be trusted to avoid phishing scams.
  • Vehicle owners must ensure their mobile number is linked to their vehicle registration in the Transport Department database.
  • Payments should only be made via the official payment gateway linked in the message or the Parivahan portal.

Authorities have advised the public not to respond to unsolicited links or messages posing as challan notifications.

E-Challan Statistics and Enforcement Progress

According to department data, in the current financial year (2024–25), over 27 lakh e-challans have been issued across Uttar Pradesh, generating fines worth more than ₹81 crore.

However, only 5 lakh challans have been settled so far, resulting in a collection of ₹27 crore. The remaining 22 lakh challans are pending payment, amounting to ₹54 crore in dues.

Major cities and highway enforcement units have been instructed to intensify recovery efforts, using both digital reminders and field enforcement to close the gap.
