The Delhi Police have uncovered an alleged conspiracy to extort ₹50 lakh from a 74-year-old retired Haryana government employee by framing him in a staged rape case in west Delhi’s Ranhola area. Investigators identified the victim’s 56-year-old son-in-law, Yogendra, as the alleged mastermind behind the plot. According to officers, Yogendra allegedly conspired with associates to entrap Ramesh Chander amid resentment linked to an ongoing family property dispute in Rohini. Police have arrested three men in connection with the case, including Yogendra and two associates who allegedly recruited a woman to level the allegations.
Inconsistencies in PCR complaint expose extortion plot
The matter came to light on September 30 when a woman called the police control room from a flat in Baprola, alleging that Chander had forced her to consume alcohol and sexually assaulted her. The elderly man had previously managed properties belonging to his son-in-law. After recording her statement, investigators detected repeated contradictions in her narrative, leading them to suspect a broader setup. Technical surveillance and inquiries revealed that several individuals had visited the flat shortly before the emergency call and remained in regular contact with the complainant, prompting police to expand the scope of the investigation.
Woman lured through job platform to entrap victim
Subsequent questioning revealed that the woman was allegedly brought into the scheme through the WorkIndia job portal by an associate named Ram Singh. Singh reportedly promised her employment and persuaded her to establish contact with Chander. According to police, Singh and another accused, Shiv Pratap, directed her to approach Chander under the pretext of seeking a rented flat. On September 30, she invited Chander to the premises. Following an encounter, she accused him of rape and allegedly demanded ₹50 lakh to settle the matter without filing a police complaint.
Son-in–law arrested alongside associates over property grudge
Police established that Yogendra orchestrated the scheme to send his father-in-law to prison while securing a substantial financial payout. Investigators stated that the plot was driven by Yogendra’s hostility toward Chander alongside a dispute with his own brothers over Rohini-based properties. Officers arrested Ram Singh and Shiv Pratap on October 1. Based on their disclosures, Yogendra was apprehended from Rohini on Saturday. Investigators are continuing to examine call records, financial demands, and the movements of the accused to verify if additional individuals assisted in planning or executing the extortion attempt.
