Dating Apps Used To Meet And Rob Targets, Noida Police Arrest 3

NOIDA: Three people, including two women, were detained on Tuesday for allegedly cheating on partners they met on a dating app.

According to authorities, the suspects would summon their victims for a meeting in a hotel and then depart with their possessions after providing them cold drinks laced with sedatives.

Vinod Kumar, 27, of Garhmukteshwar in Hapur, Pooja Sharma, 24, of Muradnagar in Ghaziabad, and Poonam Mahto, 25, of West Bengal were identified as the accused. According to authorities, they were currently living in rented housing in Ghaziabad. They were foun000000d with Rs 5 lakh in gold and silver jewellery, 10 debit cards, four mobile phones, and some sedatives. According to authorities, two more members are on the run.

The gang allegedly befriended people via a dating app and invited them to hotel rendezvous. They served icy drinks laced with sedatives to the targets. When the targets passed out, the suspects would depart with their belongings.

On Tuesday, police got tip-off about the suspects’ movements near Labour Chowk in Bhangel, according to Elamaran G, additional deputy commissioner of police, Noida Central.

“A police team from Phase 2 police station reached the spot and arrested two women and a man. Police found some stolen valuables from their possession, including gold jewellery, ten debit/credit cards, four mobile phones, two sleeping tablets, some sedatives, and $4,200 cash,” Elamaran G said.

According to police, the suspects called a resident of Noida Sector 82 on January 8 and urged him to meet them at a hotel. “The man arrived at the location in his car. One of the woman accused then informed the victim that she needed to meet someone immediately. The woman took the man’s car and drove away. She did not return, and the man remained waiting,” the officer said.
