New Delhi: In a shocking cyber fraud case, scammers have managed to siphon off approximately ₹21.46 lakh from a Delhi resident’s bank account without triggering any OTP or prior notification. The incident has raised serious concerns about the security of digital banking and the vulnerabilities of mobile-based financial transactions. The victim immediately filed a complaint with the Cyber Cell and the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal.

Details of the Incident:

Anmol Rana, a resident of Samaypur Badli living with his family, reported the fraud to the Outer North District Cyber Cell on September 29. According to the FIR, the incident occurred on September 26, when Anmol received an unexpected message from his bank stating that a large sum had been debited from his account.

“I did not authorize any transaction, nor did I receive any OTP or alert from my bank,” Anmol told authorities. When he contacted the bank, he was informed that the money had been transferred to another account. Shocked by the development, he immediately lodged complaints with both the National Cyber Crime Portal and the district cyber cell.

Police Action and Investigation:

Following the complaints, the police registered a formal case on October 14. Preliminary investigations suggest that the victim’s mobile device may have been hacked, allowing the perpetrators to bypass banking security protocols.

Authorities are now conducting a detailed examination of the accounts where the money was transferred and the mobile numbers linked to the transactions. The bank’s security systems are also under review to understand how such a high-value transfer could occur without OTP verification or notification.

Cybersecurity Expert Warnings:

Experts warn that incidents like this highlight the growing vulnerabilities in digital banking. “Even with sophisticated security measures, attackers are finding ways to exploit weak links, such as compromised devices or phishing attacks,” said a senior official from the cyber crime division.

Public Advisory:

The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, prompting questions about the safety of online banking transactions. Authorities have urged account holders to regularly monitor their accounts, immediately report suspicious activity, and maintain strict digital hygiene.

“Users must update their devices, adopt strong authentication methods, and be vigilant against suspicious links or messages,” the official added.

Ongoing Investigation:

Anmol Rana’s case serves as a stark reminder that cybercrime can affect anyone, at any time. Law enforcement agencies are working closely with banking institutions to trace the digital trail and apprehend the perpetrators. The investigation also aims to strengthen security protocols to prevent similar incidents in the future.

With cyber fraud on the rise, this case demonstrates that even high-value accounts are not immune, and that timely reporting, combined with robust security measures, is crucial for protecting financial assets.
