Criminals are using internet telephony to avoid arrest
Azamgarh: Local criminals are going high-tech by using latest technology to escape from the clutch of police. A recent breakthrough by the Azamgarh police have exposed how criminals are misusing technology by communicating through internet telephony which is also known as Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).
Azamgarh’s superintendent of police Triveni Singh said we have arrested a rewarded criminal – Arvind Rajbhar who was wanted in several cases of robbery and murder. It was during his grilling he confessed that the gang used to communicate through internet calls.
VoIP is a technology that allows you to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of a regular phone line.
“Usually it is difficult to track internet calls or VoIP as they are made through the internet so there is no definite number which can be checked or tracked. But as each VoIP calls have unique IP so we tracked the criminal using that,” Singh explained.
The gang was using the latest technology to escape from police net but ran out of luck after Azamgarh police cracked their web of digital communication.
There is a large possibility that even other gangs active in the state are also using secured lines or encrypted mode of communication to evade arrests.
