New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against Udit Prakash Rai, former education director of the Delhi government and an IAS officer, for alleged irregularities in faculty appointments at Delhi Tamil Education Association (DTEA) schools. The case revolves around the use of fake experience certificates to secure teaching positions, including for Rai’s wife, Shilpi Rai.

The CBI has named several other individuals in the First Information Report (FIR), including R. Raju, honorary secretary of DTEA; Sharad Kumar Verma, former deputy education officer; Govindavel Harikrishna, principal of Moti Bagh DTEA Senior Secondary School; and Shrikant Singh Yadav, manager of CPM Public School. The accused allegedly conspired to appoint five individuals, including Shilpi Rai, as Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) and Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) in DTEA schools during the 2021-22 academic year.

According to the CBI, the accused facilitated the fraudulent appointments by submitting false teaching experience certificates. The investigation revealed that these certificates were crucial in meeting eligibility criteria for the positions. The five beneficiaries of the alleged scam have also been named as accused in the case.

The case stems from a year-long preliminary inquiry initiated after complaints of irregularities in the recruitment process surfaced. The inquiry uncovered evidence suggesting a conspiracy to manipulate the appointment process, prompting the registration of the FIR.

The CBI is now investigating the roles of all accused individuals, including their involvement in fabricating and submitting fake documents. This case highlights persistent challenges in ensuring transparency and integrity in government-aided institutions. Further action is expected as the investigation progresses.
