In a major nationwide capacity-building initiative aimed at strengthening India’s response to cyber crime, the Centre for Police Technology (CPT) has announced the launch of a comprehensive Advanced Cyber Crime Investigation Training Course for police personnel across the country. The program is open to all ranks from Constables and Head Constables to Inspectors, DSPs and IPS officers, making it one of the most inclusive and ambitious cyber training initiatives in Indian policing.
The initiative is being rolled out in association with Algoritha Security Pvt Ltd, India’s leading Digital Forensics and Incident Response (DFIR) company, serving as the Knowledge Partner. The objective is to equip police officers with hands-on, court-ready cyber forensics and investigation skills aligned with the rapidly evolving nature of digital crime.
Why This Course Matters
Cyber crimes today extend far beyond basic online fraud. Modern investigations routinely involve mobile phones, cloud platforms, encrypted communications, cryptocurrencies, deepfakes, dark web marketplaces and large-scale data breaches. Recognizing this growing complexity, CPT has designed an intensive, practitioner-oriented syllabus covering more than 40 cyber forensics and investigation domains, enabling officers to convert complex digital evidence into legally sustainable, prosecutable cases.
The course places strong emphasis on field deployment readiness, strict chain-of-custody compliance, and court-admissible forensic reporting, ensuring participants can confidently manage digital evidence from seizure through prosecution.
Key Highlights of the Integrated Syllabus
The training program spans cutting-edge investigation domains rarely combined within a single police-focused course, including:
- Disk, Media and Memory Forensics – forensic imaging, deleted data recovery, RAM analysis and detection of anti-forensic techniques.
- Mobile Forensics – logical, file-system and physical extraction, encrypted application analysis (WhatsApp, Telegram), cloud-linked artifacts.
- Video, Audio and Image Forensics – CCTV/DVR analysis, enhancement, voice authentication, image tampering and deepfake detection.
- GPS, Vehicle and Drone Forensics – movement reconstruction, telematics analysis, flight log examination and operator attribution.
- Social Media, OSINT and Dark Web Forensics – online profiling, network mapping, Tor-based investigations and crypto-linked crime tracing.
- Financial, Banking and AML/CTF Investigations – transaction analysis, fraud pattern detection and money-laundering typologies.
- Network, Malware and Cloud Forensics – ransomware investigations, packet analysis, cloud log examination and breach reconstruction.
- Advanced Domains – blockchain forensics, predictive policing, steganography, quantum-safe cryptography and AI-driven investigations.
- Case Management and Courtroom Readiness – evidence tracking, forensic audits, reporting standards and legal defensibility
This structured, module-driven approach ensures officers gain both breadth and depth across the cyber crime investigation spectrum.
