Demanded bribe for allowing appointment of Gramin Dak Sevak; CBI trap successful, investigation underway.
Ranchi – The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Postal Assistant posted at the Seraikela Sub-Division in Jharkhand for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The accused was caught red-handed while taking the money from the complainant in exchange for facilitating his appointment as a Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS), Assistant Branch Post Master (ABPM) at Kamalpur Branch Office under Seraikela Sub-Office.
Bribe demanded for appointment clearance
According to a CBI statement, the case was registered on November 11, 2025, after receiving a written complaint from the victim. The complainant alleged that the Postal Assistant demanded ₹20,000 to process and approve his joining as a GDS ABPM at Kamalpur Branch Post Office. Upon verification of the allegations, the CBI registered a formal case against the accused and initiated a trap operation.
Caught red-handed in a planned CBI trap
Acting on the complaint, the CBI laid a trap to catch the accused in the act. The complainant, following CBI’s instructions, met the accused and offered the agreed amount. As soon as the accused accepted the ₹20,000 bribe, the CBI team, which was closely monitoring the exchange, apprehended him on the spot. The bribe amount was recovered and seized as evidence in the case.
CBI reiterates zero tolerance towards corruption
Officials stated that the agency has been maintaining a strict stance against corruption in government appointments and services. A case has been registered under the relevant provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 (as amended). The arrested Postal Assistant is being questioned to determine whether more officials or intermediaries are involved in the bribery network.
Investigation continues
According to sources, the CBI is now examining the accused’s phone records, bank transactions, and departmental correspondence to uncover possible links with other officials. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to clean governance and warned that any government employee involved in bribery or malpractice will face strict legal consequences.
