The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the NCR Institute of Medical Sciences in Kharkhoda and the residence of its chairperson, former BJP MLC Dr. Sarojini Agarwal, on Tuesday. The raids, which lasted nine hours, were carried out following an inspection by the National Medical Commission (NMC), which reported multiple irregularities in the medical college’s operations. These included inadequate faculty strength, irregularities in student registrations, and questionable OPD and patient admissions.

According to sources, the CBI acted swiftly after receiving the NMC report and following the arrest of six individuals—three of them doctors—in Lucknow in a bribery case related to medical college recognition. The team, comprising four officers, reached the college premises at around 3 PM and confiscated records related to faculty availability, student data, patient admissions, OPD registers, and computer files.

Residence Raided, Phones and Files Seized

Later in the evening, the CBI raided Dr. Sarojini Agarwal’s residence in Jawahar Quarters near Begumpul. The team arrived at 8:30 PM and seized mobile phones belonging to Dr. Agarwal, her husband Dr. O.P. Agarwal, and their daughter Shivani. Files linked to the operations of the medical college were thoroughly scrutinized. The officials also interrogated medical staff and administrators present at the residence.

The entire raid concluded at around midnight, with the CBI team returning after seizing documents, digital devices, and other material evidence. Interestingly, the agency did not inform the local police about the operation, maintaining complete secrecy around the investigation.

Dr. Sarojini Agarwal Denies Wrongdoing

Speaking to the media, Dr. Sarojini Agarwal confirmed the raid but dismissed allegations of misconduct. She stated that the investigation stemmed from an old issue concerning a missing file and a phone number found in the possession of an NMC official who is currently under CBI scrutiny. “The NMC inspected the college recently, and everything was found to be in order,” she claimed.

However, the mounting evidence and duration of the operation indicate that the CBI is taking the matter seriously. Officials have hinted that the case may widen as more links are uncovered in the broader investigation into medical college scams in Uttar Pradesh.
