CBI Raids in Petrol Pump Allotment Bribery Scandal

Meerut: The Ghaziabad unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the residence of an Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) official in Meerut on Wednesday in connection with the sale of adulterated fuel. The official, currently posted in Panipat, Haryana, is under investigation for alleged involvement in fuel adulteration despite previous cases filed against him.
The CBI team, arriving in vehicles marked with “Police,” conducted searches at the official’s residence in Jagriti Vihar, seizing several documents and cash. Simultaneous raids were carried out at multiple locations linked to the official, including Panipat and Muzaffarnagar. The team remained at the Meerut residence until late in the evening, scrutinizing evidence related to the case.

Although the CBI has not disclosed full details of the raid, sources indicate that the official has been under investigation for fuel adulteration for some time. Despite multiple cases filed against him, Indian Oil had not taken decisive action to address the allegations. The official’s role in the distribution and sale of adulterated fuel is now under intensified scrutiny.
When asked about the raid, SSP Vipin Tada stated that he had no specific information regarding the CBI’s actions. Meanwhile, Indian Oil has yet to issue a formal statement on the matter.
This is not the first time an Indian Oil official has come under the CBI’s radar. Last year, another IOC official and a petrol pump owner in Pune were investigated for allegedly demanding a Rs 2.5 lakh bribe in exchange for issuing a Letter of Intent (LoI) to a new petrol pump allottee. The bribe was allegedly sought to resolve technical objections related to the proposed site for the petrol pump.
The latest raid underscores the CBI’s ongoing efforts to crack down on corruption and fraudulent practices in the petroleum sector.
