The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested two head constables posted at Sultanpuri police station in Delhi on allegations that they demanded and accepted an illegal gratification of ₹20,000 from a complainant, according to an official press release issued on March 14, 2026.

The agency said the arrests followed a case registered a day earlier, on March 13, against the two accused officers. According to the CBI, the complaint alleged that the policemen had sought the money in exchange for allowing the complainant to continue his online betting activities.

Complaint Led to Registration of Case

In its statement, the CBI said it formally registered the case on March 13 after receiving allegations that the two Delhi Police personnel had demanded an undue advantage of ₹20,000. The charge, as described by investigators, was that the money was sought as a quid pro quo: payment in return for non-interference.

The agency did not provide the names of the two arrested head constables in the press release, but identified them as personnel attached to P.S. Sultanpuri in Delhi.

Trap Operation and Arrest

The CBI said it laid a trap on March 13 and caught both accused officers red-handed while demanding and accepting the alleged bribe amount from the complainant. Following the trap operation, both were arrested.

The press note described the sum involved as illegal gratification or undue advantage, language commonly used in corruption cases involving public servants. The agency said the arrests were made immediately after the alleged acceptance of the money.

Investigation Continues

The CBI said further investigation is underway.

In the same press release, the agency said its action against corrupt public servants reflects its stated commitment to curbing corruption. It also urged citizens who encounter demands for bribes by public officials to report such matters to the CBI office in New Delhi or through the contact numbers provided by the agency.
