CBI Cracks Down on AIIMS-Bhubaneswar Over Alleged Recruitment Scam

Published

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted a high-profile raid at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, following allegations of irregularities in the recruitment process. Reports indicate that contractual employees were allegedly hired and later regularized by the institute, raising serious concerns over procedural violations.

Prompted by multiple complaints related to corruption, the CBI launched a thorough investigation into suspected discrepancies in hiring practices. A nine-member team from the CBI’s Bhubaneswar unit led the operation, focusing on how five members of a single family reportedly secured permanent employment at AIIMS. As part of the probe, 27 individuals have been interrogated so far.

Authorities suspect that some temporary employees in Bhubaneswar fraudulently obtained permanent positions using forged documents linked to Ghaziabad and Gorakhpur in Uttar Pradesh. Further scrutiny has revealed that AIIMS-Bhubaneswar may have bypassed the standard ‘all-India recruitment norms’ by independently conducting its own tests and selection processes, deviating from established protocols.

The investigation gained momentum after a public notice issued on July 1, 2023, announced 700 vacancies at AIIMS-Bhubaneswar. Subsequent recruitment activities raised concerns regarding fairness and transparency, prompting authorities to take action.

During the five-hour-long raid at the institute’s Academic Block, CBI officials seized crucial documents that could provide evidence related to the alleged irregularities. The inquiry remains ongoing as investigators analyze the recovered materials to determine the extent of the violations.

This development has sparked widespread attention, with many calling for stricter oversight to ensure merit-based and transparent recruitment in premier institutions like AIIMS.
