CBI Court Orders Voice Sample Collection of DSP, ED Officer in Bribery Case

A special CBI court has directed the Chandigarh Model Jail administration to transfer the custody of DSP Balbir Singh and Enforcement Directorate (ED) assistant director Vishaldeep to the investigating agency for collecting their voice samples. Both officials were arrested in a money laundering case linked to a Rs 2.5 crore bribery demand.
Previously, the court had permitted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to obtain voice samples of the accused. However, when the investigation team reached Chandigarh Model Jail for the procedure, the jail administration refused to hand them over without explicit written orders from the court. This prompted the agency to file another application seeking official instructions.

During the hearing on Tuesday, the court issued a formal directive, instructing that both accused be presented at the Chandigarh Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) for their voice sample analysis. Following the procedure, they are to be returned to jail under secure custody.
Earlier, the accused had requested that their voice samples be tested at a laboratory other than CFSL Delhi. The court had approved this plea on and directed the CBI to conduct the analysis at an alternative forensic lab.
The case stems from allegations of bribery involving DSP Balbir Singh and ED officer Vishaldeep in connection with the Himachal Pradesh scholarship scam. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather crucial evidence.
