Kanpur Dehat, Uttar Pradesh: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on 14 November 2025 arrested two officials of UP Gramin Bank, Baraur Branch—the Field Officer and the Branch Manager—for allegedly accepting a bribe. According to the complaint, the accused demanded ₹7,000 as undue advantage from the complainant in return for sanctioning a Kisan Credit Card (KCC) Tatkal Loan of ₹1,20,000, applied for by the complainant’s brother-in-law.

Based on the complaint, the CBI registered a case on 13 November 2025 against both officials under relevant provisions of law. The preliminary investigation indicated that the two accused conspired to secure personal gain in exchange for processing and sanctioning the loan, which is intended to facilitate agricultural financing for farmers.

To catch the officials red-handed, the CBI laid a trap operation on 14 November 2025, during which both the Field Officer and Branch Manager were caught demanding and accepting the bribe. Following this, they were taken into custody on the same day and placed under arrest.

The agency confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and further inquiries are being conducted to ascertain the full extent of the criminal conspiracy. The CBI is collecting evidence from all relevant parties, including bank records, witness statements, and digital communications, to build a robust case against the accused.

Experts note that this arrest underscores the importance of transparency and accountability in rural banking operations. The Kisan Credit Card scheme aims to provide timely financial support to farmers for agricultural and allied activities. Any attempt by bank officials to solicit bribes directly undermines the objectives of the scheme and erodes public trust in banking institutions.

The CBI also emphasized that such operations serve as a deterrent against corruption and reinforce the message that illegal monetary demands and misuse of official position will not be tolerated. The swift action against the officials reflects the agency’s commitment to uphold integrity in financial institutions and protect the interests of farmers and depositors alike.

Officials stated that prompt investigation and enforcement action are critical to maintaining public confidence in the banking system, especially in rural areas where access to credit is vital for livelihoods. The case is also expected to highlight gaps in oversight and prompt stricter monitoring mechanisms in cooperative and regional banks.

This arrest sends a clear message across Uttar Pradesh’s rural banking network that corruption and misconduct will face stringent consequences. The CBI’s intervention reinforces the principle that timely detection and accountability are essential to maintain the credibility of government-sponsored financial schemes and safeguard the welfare of farmers.
