Bihar Police have uncovered a major interstate cybercrime network operating out of Gopalganj, with a former tea seller allegedly orchestrating large-scale online fraud. In a late-night raid on Amaithi Khurd village on October 17, police seized ₹1.05 crore in cash, gold and silver jewellery, multiple bank documents, and a luxury vehicle, leading to the arrest of two brothers — Abhishek Kumar and Aditya Kumar.

Massive Haul During Raid

Under the supervision of Cyber DSP Avantika Dilip Kumar, the police recovered:

  • ₹1,05,49,850 in cash
  • 344 grams of gold
  • 1.75 kg of silver
  • 85 ATM cards, 75 bank passbooks, 28 cheque books
  • Multiple Aadhaar cards, two laptops, three mobile phones
  • A luxury car

Officials said this is one of the largest cyber fraud busts in Gopalganj to date.

From Tea Stall to Cyber Fraud Empire

The prime accused, Abhishek Kumar, formerly ran a small tea stall before allegedly joining a cybercrime network. He reportedly relocated to Dubai, coordinating the online operations remotely, while his brother Aditya Kumar managed transactions and logistics within India.

“Initial investigation suggests the gang transferred fraudulently obtained funds into multiple bank accounts and later converted them into cash. The network may extend beyond Bihar,” said DSP

Connections Traced to Bengaluru

Preliminary checks revealed that most seized bank passbooks were issued in Bengaluru, prompting the police to expand the investigation to other states. Authorities are also examining whether these accounts were linked to national-level cyber networks.

In addition to the state police, teams from the Income Tax Department and Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) have joined the probe to verify the source of funds and explore any connections to organised cybercrime.

Interrogation Underway

Both arrested brothers have been under questioning for two days. Police are analysing data recovered from laptops, mobile phones, and bank records to identify other members of the network.

“Based on confidential information, we conducted this operation and seized over ₹1.05 crore in cash, valuable jewellery, and multiple bank documents linked to cyber fraud. Interrogation of the suspects is ongoing, and the investigation is being expanded to other states,” said DSP

A Wake-Up Call for Cybersecurity in Rural India

Officials say the case highlights the growing sophistication of cybercrime, even in rural areas, where seemingly ordinary individuals can orchestrate high-tech fraud networks. The investigation continues as police work to trace the full extent of the gang’s operations and its interstate links.

This case underscores the urgent need for heightened cybersecurity awareness and law enforcement vigilance to tackle the rising wave of digital fraud in India.
