The Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Bihar conducted an extensive raid on the residence of Registrar Binay Saurabh in Purnea, uncovering assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The eight-hour search operation, led by DSP Rajan Prasad Singh, revealed unaccounted wealth, including cash, jewellery, and property documents spanning across states.
Eight-Hour Raid Leads to Major Seizures
The raid began at 7 a.m. when two EOU vehicles arrived at Panorama City, under the Purnea Sadar police station limits. Shocked family members were present as a team of ten officials combed through the registrar’s flat until 3:30 p.m. By the end of the operation, authorities had seized ₹2.5 lakh in cash, a significant collection of gold and silver jewellery, including a mangalsutra, as well as documents linked to real estate acquisitions.

Investigators also questioned Saurabh’s wife and domestic help. During interrogation, his wife admitted to the recent purchase of a property in Sasaram, which has now been included in the EOU’s First Information Report (FIR).
Properties Across Bihar and West Bengal
According to preliminary findings, Binay Saurabh’s assets exceed his declared income by 188 per cent. His total legal income is estimated at ₹1.43 crore, whereas his accumulated properties and wealth surpass ₹2.70 crore. The EOU also discovered that Saurabh had invested in properties outside Bihar, particularly in West Bengal. Records point to seven plots and a commercial shop purchased in Siliguri and Jalpaiguri. These assets were reportedly not disclosed to government authorities, raising suspicions of illegal accumulation.
Authorities have now added these findings to their ongoing investigation. DSP Rajan Kumar Singh confirmed the seizure of valuables, property papers, and documents linked to newly purchased flats. With the case widening, the registrar faces mounting legal trouble and the prospect of corruption charges.
The raid underscores Bihar’s continued crackdown on corruption and disproportionate assets among public officials, with the EOU signalling further investigations in the coming weeks.
