The Special Vigilance Unit (SVU) on Friday conducted simultaneous raids at multiple premises linked to Jehanabad DSP Sanjeev Kumar, following allegations of possessing disproportionate assets worth over ₹1.52 crore. The searches spanned Patna, Khagaria, and Jehanabad, unearthing extensive property holdings, including a multi-storey hospital, luxury residences, and multiple commercial vehicles registered in his wife’s name.

Officials said the action was initiated after an FIR was lodged against Kumar on August 7 under provisions related to the acquisition of assets beyond known sources of income. Court approval for the raids was obtained prior to the operation.

Properties, Hospital, and Fleet of Trucks Uncovered

During the searches, SVU teams discovered a four-storey residence in Patna’s Ramnagari locality and a multi-storey hospital in Khagaria, both allegedly linked to Kumar. Investigators also found that ten trucks were registered in the name of his wife, with an estimated combined value exceeding ₹3 crore.

A current account in ICICI Bank under his wife’s name is under scrutiny, with the SVU suspecting it holds substantial unaccounted funds. The account, officials say, could contain assets doubling the declared disproportionate amount. Additional accounts were identified in the State Bank of India, the Punjab National Bank, the Bank of India, and the IDBI Bank under the names of Kumar and his wife. Detailed scrutiny of these accounts is underway.

Jewellery, Land Deals, and Alleged Nexus with Land Mafia

Search operations also led to the recovery of jewellery valued at ₹38 lakh and documents pointing to land purchases across multiple districts. These include agricultural plots in Begusarai worth ₹23.5 lakh, a plot in Khagaria costing ₹20 lakh, and another in Samastipur valued at over ₹11 lakh.

SVU suspects that during his posting in Khagaria, Kumar maintained close links with land mafia groups, facilitating lucrative property investments. Officials confirmed that documents related to fuel supplies for his truck fleet were also seized from his official residence.

Preliminary analysis suggests that while Kumar’s net income from service since 1994 amounts to ₹3.43 crore, his investments in movable and immovable assets exceed ₹3.06 crore, far surpassing his legitimate savings of ₹1.54 crore. Authorities plan to seek court orders for the confiscation of the allegedly wrongly acquired assets.
