Bihar-Based YouTuber Manish Kashyap Faces Charges Under National Security Act For Spreading Fake News
YouTuber Manish Kashyap, who surrendered to Bihar’s Champaran Police in March after several police teams were on his hunt, has been charged under the National Security Act (NSA) over alleged circulation of videos showing attacks on Bihari migrant workers in Tamil Nadu. The Madurai district court has sent him to judicial custody till April 19.
Manish Kashyap, who fought elections for Bihar’s Chanpatia Assembly seat in 2020, had mentioned his name as ‘Tripurari Kumar Tiwari’ on his nomination papers. He studied engineering in 2016 and refers to himself as the ‘son of Bihar.’

Kashyap is alleged to have uploaded a video that falsely showed migrant labourers from Bihar purportedly being harassed in Tamil Nadu, which garnered over a thousand views on his channel. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar called for an inquiry into the incident, and Kashyap came under the radar of Bihar and Tamil Nadu Police.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin denied allegations of harassment of migrant workers in the state and reassured Bihar CM Nitish Kumar that workers were not targeted. DGP Tamil Nadu Shailendra Babu stated that “somebody in Bihar has posted a false and misleading video regarding migrant workers from Bihar being attacked in Tamil Nadu. Two videos which are circulating on social media regarding the incident are false. The facts of the videos are twisted so as to appear that migrant workers living in Tamil Nadu are being attacked.”
The case against Kashyap has raised questions about the impact of fake news on social media and the consequences of spreading it. It also highlights the need for verifying information before sharing it on public platforms.
