A tech professional couple was found dead in an apparent case of suicide in Bengaluru, with initial reports indicating that job loss, financial strain and health concerns may have contributed to the distress preceding the deaths. The deceased were identified as Bhanuchandra Reddy, 32, and his wife Sajiya, both employed in private sector jobs in the technology field.

A note recovered from the apartment, according to the report, stated that Reddy had worked in the United States for several years and lost his job last year due to AI-triggered cuts. The note also said that after returning to India, he had been searching for work while facing unemployment-related anxiety and financial pressure. It said Sajiya had secured a job with IBM, and that the couple had moved to Bengaluru around eight months ago after being married for two years.

The discovery inside the apartment

The report said Sajiya alerted apartment security after her husband failed to respond to repeated calls and did not open the bedroom door. Security personnel later broke open the door and found Reddy hanging from a ceiling fan, with a note recovered from the room.

Initial findings, as cited in the report, indicate that Reddy died at home while his wife was not present in the room. What followed, according to the report, is now part of the police inquiry.

Stress, unemployment and the contents of the note

The note, as described in the report, linked Reddy’s distress to the loss of his job in the United States and the strain that followed his return to India. It said he had been under considerable stress due to health concerns and anxiety connected to unemployment.

The report also said that while Sajiya had found employment with IBM, the couple was dealing with financial strain. Those details have brought attention to the pressures faced by some technology professionals amid changing job conditions and AI-linked cuts.

Police inquiry under way

The report said Sajiya remained in the apartment for nearly 20 minutes after reading the note, as neighbours gathered and calls were made to police and emergency services. After some time, she jumped from the building and died on the spot.

The deaths have come as a shock to the couple’s families and neighbours, particularly as they were described as educated, employed and financially stable. Two separate cases have been registered at the local police station, and further investigation is under way to establish the exact circumstances that led to the deaths.
