Bareilly-based builder Charanpal Singh Sobti faces serious allegations of amassing property worth billions across multiple districts using his domestic worker’s name. A family complaint has triggered an investigation into layers of suspected benami assets.

Bareilly builder Charanpal Singh Sobti has come under scrutiny for allegedly purchasing properties worth billions in the name of his domestic worker, Chatrapal Singh, across Bareilly, Rampur, Rudrapur and neighbouring districts. According to the family, Sobti not only registered land in Chatrapal’s name but also coerced him into signing a will in his favour. Several of these assets are now being used to develop two large colonies along the Kashipur–Rudrapur National Highway in Rampur district.

Colonies Developed on Land Bought in Worker’s Name

Family members allege that Sobti has developed two colonies—Sobti Green Golden and Sobti Sapphire—near Dibdiba village in Rampur district. Most of the land, purchased from local farmers, is registered in Chatrapal Singh’s name. Plotting work is reportedly complete, and the sale of plots has already begun. Local residents say that Surjit Singh is handling the sale of plots and has been given power of attorney by Sobti.

Major Assets Traced in Rudrapur and Uttarakhand

The family claims that extensive property was also bought in Chatrapal’s name in Rudrapur, Uttarakhand. Several colonies have already been developed, and multi-storey hotels have been constructed on some parcels of land. Around 100 acres of agricultural land belonging to Gyani Uttam Singh near Dibdiba was also allegedly purchased years ago under the same arrangement.

Allegations of Financial Irregularities From the Beginning

According to Chatrapal’s wife, Manisha Singh, her husband had been working for Sobti’s family since 1990. She alleges that from the beginning, Charanpal Singh used inducements to buy land in Chatrapal’s name, open joint bank accounts and conduct large financial transactions. Manisha claims that crores of rupees were routed through these joint accounts as deposits and withdrawals.

Will Signed Under Pressure, Bigger Revelations Expected

The family also alleges that Sobti forced Chatrapal to sign a will in his favour years ago. Manisha says that several major land parcels in Rampur and Rudrapur, along with financial dealings through joint bank accounts, are yet to be fully uncovered. She believes many significant details remain hidden.

Initial Tax Department Probe Flags Benami Holdings

Sources indicate that the Income Tax Department’s initial inquiry has revealed benami properties in Dhohra and Haroonagla areas. Officials are now examining property records, hotel projects and colony development documents linked to assets registered in Chatrapal’s name across multiple districts. Following the family’s complaint, investigative agencies have intensified their scrutiny, and more revelations are expected in the coming days.
