The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended the Branch Manager of Bank of Baroda’s Shikarpur Branch, Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1 lakh. The accused reportedly requested the bribe through a signed bank cheque and was caught red-handed while encashing the amount.

The arrest followed a written complaint registered on December 11, 2024, against the Branch Manager. According to the complaint, the wife of the complainant had applied for a loan of Rs 80 lakh from the bank. In return, the accused Branch Manager allegedly demanded an illegal gratification of Rs 1 lakh to sanction the loan. The accused also insisted that the bribe amount be handed over via a signed bank cheque, which he intended to encash himself.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI set up a trap and provided the complainant with a duly signed cheque for Rs 1 lakh. The accused was arrested during the operation while withdrawing the amount. The investigative team recovered the cheque and the bribe amount from the accused’s possession.

Searches conducted at the accused’s residences in Bulandshahr and Delhi led to the recovery of a pistol, which was subsequently handed over to the local police at Shikarpur police station. The accused is now being presented before the Special Judge of the CBI Court in Ghaziabad.

The investigation into the case is ongoing.
