Baghpat: In a significant administrative move in Uttar Pradesh, Chief Development Officer (CDO) Brijendra Shukla posted in Baghpat district has been removed from his position. The state government has attached him to the headquarters with immediate effect, a decision that has triggered considerable activity within the district administration.
According to available information, the action was taken following allegations of negligence in monitoring and executing ongoing development projects in the district. Several complaints had reportedly been raised regarding delays and lack of effective supervision in the implementation of various government schemes.

Sources indicate that dissatisfaction had been expressed at the district level regarding the pace of development work. Reports highlighting administrative lapses and slow progress in key projects were subsequently sent to higher authorities for review.
It is learnt that concerns were raised over the implementation of multiple welfare and infrastructure initiatives, where progress was reportedly slower than expected. Complaints pointed to inadequate monitoring and lack of coordination in ensuring timely completion of development programmes.
Following these developments, the matter was reviewed at the government level. After examining the reports and complaints received from the district, authorities decided to remove Brijendra Shukla from the post of Chief Development Officer.
As part of the action, Shukla has been attached to the headquarters. Under administrative rules, when an officer is attached to the headquarters, they are relieved from their current posting and asked to report at the headquarters until further orders or reassignment.
Sources further stated that concerns regarding administrative coordination were also highlighted in communications sent to the government. Issues related to the pace of development work and oversight of various programmes were reportedly mentioned during the review process.
Following the removal of the CDO, the Baghpat district administration is currently functioning without a full-time Chief Development Officer. Officials indicated that a new officer is likely to be appointed soon to take charge of the position.
Until a replacement is posted, the responsibilities related to development programmes and departmental coordination are expected to be handled through interim administrative arrangements within the district administration.
The post of Chief Development Officer is considered crucial in district governance. The CDO is responsible for supervising and coordinating several key government schemes related to rural development, panchayat administration, employment programmes, housing initiatives, sanitation drives, and other welfare projects.
Any change in this position can directly affect the pace and monitoring of development activities across the district, particularly those linked to rural infrastructure and social welfare schemes.
In administrative circles, the decision is being seen as part of broader efforts to ensure accountability in the execution of government programmes. Officials maintain that delays or negligence in implementing public welfare schemes are taken seriously and reviewed at higher levels.
Attention is now focused on when a new Chief Development Officer will be appointed in Baghpat and what steps the administration will take to restore momentum to ongoing development projects in the district.
