The Economic Offences Wing of the Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested Madhumita Kaur, director and chief executive officer of B Care Company, from Ranchi in Jharkhand in connection with an alleged insurance fraud of 250 crore rupees. The arrest was executed in the Argora police station area of Ranchi following proceedings tied to Case Number 349/12, originally registered at Krishna Nagar police station in Lucknow and currently investigated under Case Number 1/16 by the agency. Following her detention, investigators secured transit remand from a local Ranchi court, transported Kaur to Lucknow, and produced her before a competent court as part of legal proceedings. A total of 26 criminal cases have been registered against Kaur and associated individuals across Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Uttarakhand for alleged financial impropriety and the diversion of public funds collected through fraudulent investment schemes.

Fraudulent Assurance of Bonus Policy Returns

According to the Economic Offences Wing, the parent entity, V-Care Multitrade Private Limited, was registered across Delhi and Haryana between 2008 and 2009 before opening a regional operating office in the Krishna Nagar area of Lucknow. The firm approached potential investors by offering insurance policies affiliated with established providers, including Reliance Life Insurance, HDFC Life Insurance, and Aegon Life Insurance. Officials stated that representatives systematically lured prospective buyers by assuring them of lucrative financial benefits, additional bonuses, and attractive cash incentives if they purchased the designated policies. However, the funds gathered from policyholders were allegedly diverted and misappropriated rather than handled under formal insurance guidelines. Once substantial capital was accumulated, the company shuttered its commercial premises, and key managerial operators absconded, prompting multiple formal police complaints regarding unreturned investments and fabricated returns.

Referral Network and Unpaid Premium Guarantees

Investigators revealed that the firm heavily deployed a multi-tiered referral model to broaden its pool of depositors. Under this structure, existing clients who enrolled new subscribers or persuaded others to buy insurance products were promised that the enterprise would cover their second-year insurance premium instalments directly. This commitment led investors to believe that their subsequent annual policy costs would be fully subsidised after submitting the initial deposit. The agency found that the company failed to deposit the promised second-year premiums with the respective insurance firms, causing direct financial losses to policyholders and jeopardising the continuity of their coverage. Investigators suspect this mechanism was used deliberately to generate commissions and expand cash inflows, and the probe is now focused on tracing internal accounts, commission payments, and the systematic diversion of deposits from their stated financial purpose.

Interstate Probe Across Twenty-Six Police Jurisdictions

The investigation has expanded substantially beyond Lucknow, with 26 separate cases formally registered across four states, namely Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Uttarakhand. Officers are currently reviewing documentation and complaints across various police jurisdictions to determine the individual liability of company executives, agents, and associated intermediaries. The ongoing probe seeks to identify the financial channels used to transfer the defrauded sums, establish the aggregate volume of affected investors, and pinpoint the destination of the misappropriated 250 crore rupees. While Kaur remains in judicial custody following her appearance in court, the investigating agency is conducting forensic reviews of the firm’s transactions to verify claims and produce supporting evidence before the judiciary.
