Assistant Commissioner GST Dr. Shashikant Dubey Arrested in Dehradun

Dehradun: In a significant move, the vigilance team in Dehradun has arrested Dr. Shashikant Dubey, an Assistant Commissioner of the GST department, for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 75,000. This action highlights ongoing efforts to curb corruption within the governmental bodies responsible for tax administration.

The Uttarakhand Vigilance team nabbed Dr. Dubey red-handed while he was accepting the bribe at his office on Lakshmi Road, Dehradun. Initial reports indicate that the vigilance team has also conducted a search operation at Dr. Dubey’s residence, continuing their crackdown on corrupt practices. Dr. Dubey is a PCS officer from the 2015 batch.

This arrest sheds light on the broader issue of corruption within the GST system, where fraudulent activities have been rampant. In a related development, a joint operation by Noida and Coimbatore police recently apprehended Suganya Prabhu, a 40-year-old woman and a metal manufacturing factory owner from Coimbatore. Prabhu is accused of orchestrating a massive Rs. 10,000 crore GST fraud through a network of fake companies. Her actions are believed to have caused a loss of Rs. 14.2 crore to the government treasury by falsely claiming input tax credits (ITC).

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Noida, Shakti Mohan Avasthy, explained, “She’s suspected of setting up fictitious companies to claim input tax credits (ITC) that weren’t legitimate.” This statement points to the gravity of the situation and the extensive efforts required to dismantle such fraudulent networks.
