Guwahati: Security agencies in Assam have achieved a major success in the ongoing crackdown against drug trafficking. In two separate operations conducted in Guwahati and Patharkandi in Sribhumi district, drugs worth approximately ₹5.93 crore were seized. Three suspects have also been arrested during the operation. The state government has stated that strict policies are being implemented against drug traffickers and continuous action is being taken to dismantle the entire network.
Coordinated Raids in Two Districts
The Chief Minister of Assam informed through a social media post that a total of 83,399 yaba tablets and 10 kg of cannabis were recovered during the two operations. The raids were carried out in areas of Kamrup Metropolitan district and Patharkandi. Interrogation of the arrested individuals is underway to trace the possible trafficking network associated with the seized substances.
According to the administration, special operations are being conducted to curb narcotics trafficking in the state. Officials said surveillance has been intensified across highways and urban areas to disrupt the drug supply chain. The Chief Minister sent a strong message stating that traffickers have nowhere left to hide in the state and that police forces are fully active.

Seizure of Yaba Tablets and Cannabis
The recovered yaba tablets are banned in India as they contain methamphetamine, a highly dangerous chemical known to cause severe addiction. Experts warn that synthetic drugs of this type pose a serious threat to youth health and social security. Authorities are trying to intercept illegal drug supplies at the initial stage itself.
Police officials said the raids in Guwahati and Patharkandi were conducted based on intelligence inputs. During the operation, suspected locations were searched and large quantities of narcotics were seized. The identities of the arrested individuals have not been made public, but the search for other possible associates is continuing.
Intensified Surveillance and Network Disruption
The state government stated that a zero-tolerance policy is being followed against drug trafficking. Authorities are planning to strengthen monitoring of interstate trafficking routes and disrupt potential supply channels coming from neighbouring regions. Police and narcotics control units have been instructed to conduct joint operations.
Officials believe that drug trafficking cases have increased in Assam and the northeastern region in recent years. To address this challenge, border area surveillance is being strengthened and local awareness campaigns are also being conducted.
Ongoing Investigation and Further Action
The government said the objective of this campaign is not only to arrest traffickers but also to weaken the entire drug trade ecosystem. Investigation agencies are now probing the source of the seized drugs and identifying possible buyers involved in the network. There is also a possibility of further arrests in the case.
Meanwhile, interrogation of the three arrested suspects is continuing as police attempt to determine through which trafficking network the narcotics were brought into the state. Further legal action will be taken after the completion of the investigation.
