In a significant development in Andhra Pradesh, three senior police officers have been suspended following allegations of illegally arresting a Mumbai-based actor, Kadambari Jethwani. The suspended officers include P S R Anjaneyulu (DG rank), Kanthi Rana Tata (IG rank), and Vishal Gunni (SP rank). These suspensions came in the wake of a complaint by the actor, who claimed that she was harassed and wrongfully detained by the Andhra Pradesh police under the leadership of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

Kadambari Jethwani accused the Andhra police of acting on the instructions of a YSR Congress leader, who had earlier accused her of a land-related scam. She was taken into custody from Mumbai to Vijayawada before the First Information Report (FIR) was officially filed. Jethwani claimed that the arrest was part of a conspiracy to discredit her, as she had previously filed a sexual harassment complaint against a top corporate executive in Mumbai.

Jethwani further alleged that the police used threats to coerce her into withdrawing the case against the executive. She recounted that the Bombay High Court had directed that charges be filed against the executive. However, due to her arrest in Andhra Pradesh, she was unable to present her case, leading to the case’s closure. The suspension order for the three senior officers highlighted procedural lapses, misconduct, and misuse of authority, particularly in the handling of the arrest.

P S R Anjaneyulu, accused of abusing his position to expedite the arrest, is facing charges of connivance and dereliction of duty. Kanthi Rana Tata is being held accountable for failing to properly oversee the investigation, and Vishal Gunni has been charged with neglecting due diligence before ordering the arrest. The Andhra Pradesh government has suspended these officers under the All India Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules of 1969. Meanwhile, the actor has registered a counter-complaint alleging a false case was filed against her, and a probe has been initiated into the actions of the YSR Congress leader involved in the matter.
