Data Misuse and Modus Operandi: Shine & Naukri Portals Exploited

The gang obtained personal data of job seekers from employment portals and cold-called victims offering fake job opportunities. In one confirmed case, on June 17, 2025, the accused defrauded Adil Koduru, a resident of Kadiri Town, Andhra Pradesh, by offering a job and extorting ₹22,480 under various false charges like registration, document verification, and issuance of offer letters.

During interrogation, it was revealed that Mukul, acting on instructions from an absconding accused Nikhil Chahal, sourced personal details from Shine and Naukri databases. Female accomplices Jaya Verma and Ekta would call victims posing as company HR representatives. Victims were then made to pay multiple fake charges to fraudulent bank accounts. Once the money was transferred, the accused would blacklist the victim’s number.

Yogendra was responsible for withdrawing the cash from various ATMs, while Ankur arranged fake bank accounts and SIM cards in the names of poor or illiterate individuals to evade detection. The gang had been operating for the past two years, targeting victims across multiple Indian states.

Pratibimb Portal and Nationwide Trail of Complaints

The investigation was triggered by suspicious mobile numbers flagged on the Pratibimb Portal, a sophisticated cybercrime monitoring platform developed by the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs. When a cybercrime complaint is registered via helpline 1930 or the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal, relevant data including mobile numbers and bank account details are geo-mapped and analyzed through Pratibimb.

The number used to call victim Adil—9211802062—was among those flagged and was recovered from the accused during the raid. Preliminary investigation reveals that the gang is linked to multiple complaints across India involving fraudulent mobile numbers and bank accounts.
