Ambedkar Nagar : In a significant legal development in Ambedkar Nagar, an FIR has been registered in connection with the death of a youth inside the district jail. Acting on a court order, police have filed a case against the then Station Officer (SO), the jail superintendent, and other concerned police personnel under charges including culpable homicide not amounting to murder. The action comes nearly 13 months after the incident.
The case relates to the death of Ajay Kumar, a resident of Atraula in the Mahrua area, who died while lodged in jail. From the beginning, the family had raised questions about the role of the police and jail administration. Following judicial intervention, a formal case has now been registered against the officials concerned.

According to the family, negligence during Ajay Kumar’s arrest and subsequent detention in jail led to his death. After hearing a petition filed in court, the judge found prima facie grounds and directed the police to register an FIR.
The FIR names the then Station Officer, the police personnel involved in the arrest, the then jail superintendent, and another accused identified as Anil Kumar. All have been booked under sections related to culpable homicide and other relevant provisions.

With the FIR now registered, police will initiate a detailed investigation. Official documents, medical reports, and jail records will be examined. The concerned officials may also be questioned as part of the probe.
