An Air India flight operating from Frankfurt to Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on Wednesday following a suspected hijack threat, triggering an emergency security protocol across multiple agencies. Flight AI-2030 landed safely at Jaipur airport and was immediately directed to an isolation bay away from regular terminal operations. Emergency personnel, airport security units, and teams from the Anti-Terrorism Squad cordoned off the aircraft to initiate rigorous security checks. Passengers were disembarked in structured phases under armed supervision, while officials conducted extensive baggage inspections and screened the flight crew before clearing the aircraft for its onward journey.

International Hijack Transponder Code Activated Over Mumbai Airspace

The emergency diversion followed the pilot’s decision to transmit Squawk Code 7500 while the Boeing aircraft was navigating within the Mumbai Flight Information Region. The globally standardized transponder setting alerts air traffic controllers to unlawful interference or a suspected hijacking attempt on board. Following the transmission, controllers coordinated the immediate diversion to Jaipur rather than maintaining the scheduled flight path into the capital. The National Security Guard in New Delhi was reportedly placed on standby as a contingency measure while authorities monitored the approach and landing.

Extensive Ground Inspections Completed in Isolation Bay

Upon arrival in Jaipur, local police, anti-terror squads, and airport screening teams sealed off the isolated stand to facilitate systematic inspections without disrupting ordinary airport traffic. Passengers were guided off the aircraft and directed through full physical screenings alongside detailed checks of all carry-on and hold luggage. In an official statement, Air India confirmed that the diversion occurred following a perceived security concern during transit. The carrier stated that specialized agencies thoroughly examined the aircraft and cleared both the frame and crew, allowing passengers to reboard after all verification protocols concluded. Air India expressed regret for the disruption, noting that its personnel cooperated directly with authorities to minimize delays while keeping passenger safety as the primary operational priority.

Investigators Seek Origin of Mid-Air Security Alarm

The incident follows a similar scare in August, when an Air India Express service bound for Delhi from Dammam carried out an emergency diversion to Ahmedabad after cabin crew discovered a tissue paper inscribed with a bomb warning inside a lavatory. While Wednesday’s operation concluded without casualties or physical damage, authorities have not officially confirmed the total passenger count or identified the exact trigger behind the transponder activation. Official inquiries are proceeding to determine whether the alert originated from an unverified bomb warning or another reported disturbance, as well as whether any prohibited material was found during the sweep of the cabin.
