Agra, Uttar Pradesh — A chartered accountant has alleged he was duped of ₹24 lakh by fraudsters who promised to sell him agricultural land.

The victim, Alok Agarwal, said the men approached him in May, claiming they could arrange the purchase of farmland. They showed him what appeared to be authentic documents and later convinced him to transfer money in instalments.

Police Response

Mr Agarwal lodged a complaint with the cybercrime cell, which has since blocked two bank accounts connected to the accused. About ₹14 lakh remains frozen, though a formal case has not yet been registered. Police say they are investigating the suspects’ past record and the paperwork used in the fraud.

A Recurring Crime

Officials said the accused are believed to have been involved in similar financial frauds in the past. The victim reported that after he transferred the money, the men repeatedly demanded additional sums and delayed handing over the land.

Expert Warning

Cybercrime expert and former IPS officer Professor Triveni Singh told that property-related fraud is becoming an alarming trend.
“Fraudsters exploit gaps in verification by producing forged documents and convincing stories,” he said. “People must cross-check land records with government authorities before paying any money.”
